STONE TOPS:
We offer granite, marble and travertine natural stone tops as well as
a large selection of ceramic tiles. Available colors are virtually unlimited.
Working with natural stone creates its own "challenges".
Stone is sold by the slab usually 4 x 8 feet or 5 x 9 feet and can be
quite pricey. Wholesalers are reluctant to sell less than a full slab.
On occasion sizes less than a full slab or "remnants" are
available but colors are limited. The upside is pricing can be very
attractive. We most often work with remnants for that reason. We have
done large projects where we have bought slabs of stone to insure consistent
color and grain. Flexibility in color and grain expectations can save
hundreds if not thousands of dollars when it comes to choosing a particular
stone.
Granite is the most durable. Marble and travertine are softer. Marble
is very smooth but slightly porous, not the best choice around water
such as vanities. Granite is very smooth, durable and works great around
water. Travertine is very porous and usually heavily textured. It is
great for table tops with either rustic or more elegant flair, a very
versatile stone, not a good choice around water.
Often we find a gorgeous stone remnant and its size or shape will dictate
the style and size of the table. This maximizes the use of the stone
with little waste, extra cutting or polishing involved.
Many edging
styles are available from a raw cut edge framed with solid wood, polished
flat cut edge, polished rolled edge, more complicated edges can be made
by doubling the thickness, routing and polishing a fancy edge. Obviously
the more complicated the edge style the more expensive. All the polishing
is done by hand using special sand papers with diamond bits and dust
embedded in them. Using different sanding papers from rough to very
smooth results in a highly polished edge profile.
LEATHER:
Leather top tables add warmth and beauty to a room that no other material
can achieve.
We primarily use top grade European cowhides embossed with different
patterns such as alligator, ostrich and other unique patterns. Natural
alligator or ostrich hides tend to be small in size and very expensive.
Top grade European cowhides are used because they have less scarring
and damage than traditional US hides that are damaged by branding, barbed
wire fences, etc. Only the best are chosen to be used for furniture.
We offer a few limited edition Treasure Trunks using natural alligator
and ostrich hides with 24 carat gold plated hardware. These a truly
spectacular trunks.
IRON HARDWARE:
Hand made iron hardware is very unique and looks great on rustic furniture.
Slight variations will occur from piece to piece, but that is part of
the characteristic of anything hand made.
WOODS:
We have local sources for traditional solid lumber. We also have sources by exotic lumber and fabulous imported exotic veneers. The choices are virtually unlimited.
Our woods will ad the "wow" factor to any piece we design for you.
